Solution Architect - Automation & Document Processing

Our client is a leading Belgian healthcare and insurance organisation, currently undertaking a significant transformation of its automation, document processing, and digital services landscape.
They are looking for an experienced Solution Architect to define and guide the target architecture for these initiatives, ensuring solutions integrate effectively with the existing application ecosystem and support the end-to-end document lifecycle, from document intake and information extraction to workflow routing, decision support, customer communication, monitoring, and reporting.
The role is focused on architecture and design leadership, including solution recommendations, integration patterns, transition architectures, and governance.
Key Responsibilities
* Define and guide the target solution architecture for automation and document-processing initiatives.
* Design solutions combining Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), workflow orchestration, business rules, human validation, and downstream system integration.
* Define API-first, event-driven, and service-oriented integration patterns.
* Assess the existing application landscape and identify opportunities for modernization, simplification, integration, and decoupling.
* Define transition architectures and phased migration strategies for legacy modernization.
* Evaluate and challenge solutions proposed by technology vendors and implementation partners.
* Establish architecture principles and governance, and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and design documentation.
* Ensure solutions address security, privacy, compliance, and auditability requirements, including GDPR and NIS2.
* Collaborate with business stakeholders, IT teams, architects, project teams, and vendors.
Required Experience & Skills
* 5+ years of experience as a Solution, Technical, or Transformation Architect in complex digital transformation environments.
* Proven experience integrating Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) with workflow automation, orchestration, or BPM platforms.
* Strong knowledge of enterprise integration using APIs, event-driven architecture, and SOA.
* Experience with legacy modernization, transition architectures, and phased migrations.
* Experience working with multiple technology vendors and evaluating/challenging proposed solutions.
* Experience producing architecture documentation and ADRs.
* Working knowledge of security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, including GDPR, NIS2, and auditability.
* Professional proficiency in English and French and/or Dutch.
Preferred Skills
* Cloud architecture, preferably AWS, including AI/ML services and hybrid/on-premise environments.
* Enterprise Content Management (ECM/EDM): repositories, metadata, classification, versioning, retention, and legal archiving.
* RPA architecture, particularly strategies for reducing long-term dependency on RPA.
* Information architecture, including canonical models, taxonomies, master and reference data. * Experience with mainframe or iSeries environments and progressive legacy decoupling.
Nice to Have
* Experience in the Belgian healthcare or mutual insurance sector, particularly claims or reimbursement processes.
* Knowledge of AI governance, Responsible AI, model lifecycle management, and the EU AI Act.
* Knowledge of TOGAF and ArchiMate and experience maintaining an Enterprise Architecture repository.
